News from D3: Five-Setters, Upsets and Other Items of Interest on the Road to the Resch

As was the case with D4, division three had more than its share of excitement last night. This is what jumped out at us when we looked at the freshly updated brackets:
  • No. 1 Wisconsin Heights defeated No. 4 Fennimore in its D3 S3 regional behind sophomore Alexa Barsness's 17-point serving run (Wisconsin State Journal)
  • No. 1 Sheboygan Lutheran won in straight sets over No. 4 St. Mary Springs in its D3 S4 regional to remain one of two undefeated teams in the state at any level
  • No. 5 Weyawauga-Fremont upset No. 1 Gillett in straight sets in its D3 S2 regional. The Central Wisconsin Eight champions will face No. 3 Manawa (Appleton Post-Crescent)
  • No. 2 Marathon over No. 3 Amherst in a thrilling five-setter in its D3 S2 regional (Stevens Point Journal)
  • No. 2 Cameron needed all five sets to defeat No. 3 Phillips in its D3 S1 regional
  • No. 1 Grantsburg won in straight sets over No. 4 Webster to remain the only other undefeated team in the state at any level (Burnett County Sentinel)
  • No. 1 Eau Claire Regis has still only lost one match this season (its very first) after winning in straight sets over No. 4 Mondovi in its D3 S1 regional (Eau Claire Leader-Telegram)
We apologize for all the great stories we're missing. Please leave positive comments to help us fill in the blanks. These are clearly some of the more intense days of volleyball in Wisconsin and it's going to be hard to keep up. We'll try to get D2 stories posted before we resume our non-blog-related lives on this Saturday morning.

Tosa West in a 5 game thriller over Hale. Great battle between O/H's Barbeau (freshman, Hale) and Ciriacks (soph, Tosa). Worth the price of admission. Hale is going to be a premier team for the next few years with so many fresh/soph and most playing club for lightning.

E.C. Regis has lost twice. Entry reflects their win over Stanley-Boyd in the Mondovi(?? I think - it was in the EC Leader Telegram) Tourney (tourney was in fact on10/18). Only entered scores from the final - they lost in pool play to Stanley-Boyd earlier in the day. Their record obviously reflects the loss, but curiously, the rest of the tourney was not entered.
