In 2010, Four Was the Norm for Division One Sectional Two (Except for Those Two Exciting Fives to End the Season)

2010 RECAP

It was all about the four-setters in this sectional last fall. Kaukauna beat Kimberly in four in one sectional semi, while De Pere dispatched Manitowoc Lincoln in four in the other. Kaukauna then defeated De Pere in four to win the sectional. The Ghosts' Resch experience continued the theme as they beat Eau Claire North in (you guessed it) four in the state quarters before winning a pair of five-set thrillers over Fond du Lac (15-13) and Muskego (15-11) to capture the 2010 Division 1 state title.

  • Ashwaubenon Junior Alex Flucke returns. She earned Fox River Classic honorable mention accolades last season.
  • Bay Port Returning senior Taylor Long was a 2010 Green Bay Press-Gazette all-area honorable mention performer.
  • De Pere The Redbirds return Upper Iowa recruit Sydney Cyzon, whose many 2010 accolades included Fox River Classic player of the year honors. The senior was also first-team Green Bay Press-Gazette all-area. Other returning players include junior middle/right side Claire Emmerich.
  • Green Bay East Look for big contributions from senior middle Allisyn Mieziva, who made first-team Fox River Classic all-conference and second-team Green Bay Press Gazette all-area.
  • Green Bay Preble Junior Annie Goerdt and senior Kendyl Danelski will be counted on this season. Both were first team Fox River Classic honorees. Learn more about the Hornets here.
  • Green Bay Southwest The only returning roster player we've been able to identify is senior Elizabeth Woltmann, who played club for Wisconsin Volleyball Academy 17 Black last season.
  • Green Bay West The only returning roster player we know of is senior Eden Monfort.
  • Hortonville Two second-team Bay all-conference stars return: junior setter Lexi Thiel and fellow junior Emily Inglese.
  • Kaukauna There were significant graduation losses, but the Galloping Ghosts certainly return plenty of firepower, starting with the 458 kills they received from senior outside and first-team WVCA star, Jenni Fassbender. Fassbender also earned WVCA all-tournament, first-team Fox Valley Association all-conference and first-team Appleton Post-Crescent. Other returnees include senior outside Ashley Van Zeeland, who earned honorable mention Fox Valley Association.
  • Kimberly Senior middle Maria DeValk returns after earning honorable mention Fox Valley Association all-conference honors as a junior. Other returnees include outside junior Carli Johnson and fellow junior Lydia Hietpas, both of whom played club for FC Elite 16-1. Johnson also received honorable mention Appleton Post-Crescent all-area and honorable mention Fox Valley Association all-conference nods.
  • Manitowoc Lincoln The Ships return two second-team Fox River Classic all-conference players in seniors Claire Sieracki and Ali Zelinski.
  • Menasha So we don't really have any information, but the Menasha Bluejay Volleyball site looks promising for rosters and updates once the season begins.
  • Pulaski We don't have any information on Pulaski.
  • Stevens Point SPASH returns no fewer than five Wisconsin Valley all-conference players return. From the first-team there's senior middle Morgan Cebula. The second-team featured senior middle Jordan Gallon and senior setter Melanie Leopold. And senior defensive specialist Sarina Strnad and junior outside Nicki Hauser received honorable mention accolades.
  • Wisconsin Rapids Lincoln We were able to dig up last season's roster and the following '12s and '13s were on it: senior middle/outside Hailee Frank, senior setter Bailey Haumschild, junior outside Alexis Johnson, senior outside Liz Morrison, junior middle Allie Paitel, senior DS Molly Scheidegger, senior setter Steph Shannon, junior middle Shelby Steinke and senior DS Devon Zopfi.
OUR PREDICTION

Kaukauna over De Pere in four.
