Lauren Carlini, a 2013 Badger verbal, was on the USA Girls National Team that won Women's International Junior division. She was also named MVP. Congrats and congrats. That particular team is now on its way to Turkey to compete in the FIVB World Championships. Stay tuned.

Let Us Now Praise Famous Women

While there were no champions from Wisconsin at the HP Championships in Arizona (actually, hold that thought), there were certainly some admirable finishes:

• Badger Girls finished 4th in the Girls National Youth division
• Badger Girls finished 5th in the Girls National Select division
• Badger Girls finished 13th in the International Youth division
• Simone Lee (Menomonee Falls '14) was on the USA GSA Red team that finished 7th in the Women's International Junior division

Day One Report We Received Via Email

The five Badger Region High Performance teams kicked off the opening day of competition at the USA Volleyball High Performance Championships in Tucson, Ariz., on Tuesday, July 26 in fine fashion, going 10-1 in matches on the first day! The lone loss was barely a loss, as the Boys' Regional squad fell in five sets (16-14 in the fifth) to the USA Volleyball Boys Select Red squad. The Boys' National team went 3-0 for the day, including pulling out two five-set matches, while the Girls' National Select and International Youth swept both of their matches and the Girls' National Youth went 3-0 and 3-1 for the day. • UW-Oshkosh took second at the Las Vegas Open. And we quote: "The UW-Oshkosh men’s volleyball team swept all three of its opponents in pool play and then won three straight contests before losing a heartbreaking three-set affair in the championship match of the Las Vegas Open on Friday and Saturday (March 18-19) in Nevada."
• Bill Meidenbauer (Waukesha West '08) and Dan Ruys (Kimberly '07) were named to the all-tournament team at the aforebulletpointed event.
• The Wisconsin Badgers have a spring tournament in Aurora, IL -- and so does Marquette.
• The 18s Great Lakes Power League also wrapped up last weekend in the Chicago suburbs. Here are the results.
