Let Us Now Praise Famous Men

There's much to report from Arizona and we'll start with the gentlemen. There were three boys divisions at the HP Championships and Wisconsinites were present and accounted for on all three championship rosters.

• The Boys International Division was won by USA BYA2 Red, which featured Wisconsinites Kyle Rohde (Brookfield East '12) and Nicholas Olson (New Berlin United '12). Oh, by the way, the final was a 15-12 five-set thriller over USA BYA2 White, which was also stocked with players from our fine state.
• The Boys National Division was won by Badger Boys, which was, of course, all Wisconsinites.
• The Boys Regional Division was won by Badger Boys -- again all Wisconsinites.

If that seems impressive, that's because it is. Congrats all.

Day One Report We Received Via Email

The five Badger Region High Performance teams kicked off the opening day of competition at the USA Volleyball High Performance Championships in Tucson, Ariz., on Tuesday, July 26 in fine fashion, going 10-1 in matches on the first day! The lone loss was barely a loss, as the Boys' Regional squad fell in five sets (16-14 in the fifth) to the USA Volleyball Boys Select Red squad. The Boys' National team went 3-0 for the day, including pulling out two five-set matches, while the Girls' National Select and International Youth swept both of their matches and the Girls' National Youth went 3-0 and 3-1 for the day. HP Championships Starting Soon

Congratulations, Josh Kirchner (Sussex Hamilton '12 and West Allis Lightning 17-1) on making the 2011 boys youth national team, which will be playing in Mexico and Argentina later this year.

Jeremy Dejno (New Berlin United '10) will be playing in Brazil as part of the men's junior national team. Still looking for a link.
