Lazy Saturday Post

It was a beautiful day and we managed to spend it outside so we're just gonna do a lazy Saturday post about this, that and the other thing:
  • Marquette Volleyball Triplesfest appears to have been a success. If anyone can tell us who won the various divisions, that would be most wondrous.
  • Several boys teams are still competing in Southern California. We'll do a better update on where things stand tomorrow afternoon (and least that's the plan).
  • Iowa State Volleyball tweeted about boys volleyball in Wisconsin. We like that. Specifically, they pointed out that a freshman on the basketball team there, Antwon Oliver, was a middle for Racine Horlick. They also tweeted about long-time Wisconsinite Joe Lynch (UW-Milwaukee '98) becoming a father the day before Father's Day. Congrats.
  • Finally, last night we started working on our previews for the fall high school seasons and it prompted this trivia question: Which Division 1 girls sectional will boast the most returning all-staters?

"It's Making Me Wait, It's Keeping Me Way-ay-ay-ay-ay-ay-ting"

Well, there's no question that early June is all about anticipation.

Let's start with this from the PrepVolleyball.com Classic home page: "We anticipate the schedule [for the 17s and 18s] going live on the afternoon of Tuesday, June 9." Hey, that's tomorrow.

Then let's move on to the fact that Boys JOVCs, Girls JOVCs and JVDAs are all just weeks away. Can't wait, can't wait and, you guessed it, can't wait.

And finally, let's all admit to ourselves that it's none too soon to start anticipating the various high school seasons. One way to start getting excited is to follow the tweets of Brian Zimmerman, boys volleyball coach at Neenah. He has 46 followers at the moment and we think it'd be kinda cool if that number reached 100 or more before the season starts. Consider it a painless way to help build awareness of boys volleyball in this state. And you know you want to do that.

And while we're on the subject of high school volleyball, we plan to once again take an August-long look at the various boys and girls sectionals. If you're a high school coach, we'd love to have your help whenever you feel comfortable letting us know how your team might look. Just shoot us an e-mail at vbuberalles@gmail.com.

Thanks. And remember, these are the good old days.

Two Wisconsin Prep Stars on 2009 Boys Youth National Training Team

Congrats to Jeremy Dejno (New Berlin United '10) and Nick Gibson (Shorewood '09) on achieving this huge milestone. If they're placed in the top 12 of this group, they'll play in Italy in September at the FIVB Boys Youth World Championships. Nice.

Second Annual WIAA New Year's Day Predictions

Happy 2009 from Cheese & Volleyball.

One year ago today, we were a few points away from perfection in our 2008 picks. This year, we're thinking we won't be so accurate (although we're greatly comforted by the fact that it will take 11 months to prove conclusively that we really didn't know what we were talking about today). So keeping in mind that these predictions are more uneducated guesses than anything else, here goes nothin':

Division 4: Cambria-Friesland
Division 3: Grantsburg
Division 2: Catholic Memorial
Division 1: Muskego
Boys: New Berlin United

Feel free to share who you think is gonna win what, but keep in mind that we only publish the positive. Thanks.
