News from D4: Five-Setters, Upsets & Other Items of Interest on the Road to the Resch

The second rounds of the D2, D3 and D4 state playoffs are now in the books. And here's a quick rundown (we can't type fast enough) of some of the Division 4 news that jumps out at us on this Saturday morning:
  • No. 4 Hilbert upset No. 1 Green Bay N.E.W. Lutheran in five hard-fought sets 25-23, 20-25, 23-25, 26-24, 15-11 in its D4 S4 regional. Meghan Prost had 13 blocks and Cassie Sarokin had 26 digs for the losing Blazers and Whitney Stecker had 28 assists and five aces for the Hilbert Wolves (Green Bay Press-Gazette and Appleton Post-Crescent)
  • No. 2 Johnson Creek needed five sets to defeat No. 3 Rio in its D4 S4 regional (Wisconsin State Journal)
  • No. 1 Seneca in five over No. 4 Cassville in its D4 S3 regional (Wisconsin State Journal)
  • No. 2 Weston in five over No. 3 Highland in its D4 S3 regional (Wisconsin State Journal)
  • In the D4 "extra numbers" match of the night, No. 4 Randolph defeated No. 1 Lake Country Lutheran in the 19-17 fifth set of its D4 S4 regional (Wisconsin State Journal)
  • No. 1 Assumption over No. 5 Port Edwards in its D4 S2 regional
  • Jamie Vandenberg had some unbelievable stats (33 kills, six blocks and 46 digs) but No. 2 Niagara still fell to No. 3 Florence in five in its D4 S2 regional. (Green Bay Press-Gazette)
We'll try to provide the same sort of rundown for D3 next.
