News from D2: Five-Setters, Upsets & Other Items of Interest on the Road to the Resch

To no one's surprise, D2 had its fair share of excitement last night (unless, of course, you think a 21-19 fifth set is sorta, you know, ho-hum). Here's what the brackets and the online media we've been to so far are revealing:
  • No. 3 River Valley defeated No. 2 Richland Center in its D2 S3 regional in a thriller that ended 15-11 in the decisive fifth set. Senior outside hitter Jordana Stuntebeck of River Valley had 27 kills on the night, including four in the final set (Wisconsin State Journal)
  • No. 3 Jefferson defeated No. 2 Lakeside Lutheran in its D2 S3 regional that ended even closer at 15-13 in the fifth set (Wisconsin State Journal and Watertown Daily Times)
  • No. 2 Winneconne needed all five to oust No. 3 Berlin in its D2 S2 sectional. For their efforts, they'll face No. 1 Waupun in the next round
  • No. 3 Sparta needed "extra numbers" to defeat No. 2 Onalaska in its D2 S1 regional. The fifth-set final score of 17-15 would have been our D2 extra numbers match of the night if it weren't for...
  • No. 2 Wrightstown defeated No. 3 Denmark in their D2 S2 regional that appears to have been a five-setter for the ages. The final score was 21-19 (as in 14-14, 15-15, 16-16, 17-17, 18-18, 19-19 ties along the way). Katelyn Falck had 57 assists for the Wrightsville Tigers (Green Bay Press-Gazette)
That's going to do it for now. More action tonight. Share any positive comments from any of the matches (or anything else) and we'll publish them as soon as we can. Thanks.
