Girls High School Rankings Are Out

State rankings are up: In D1, the top three remain unchanged. Oshkosh West, which we believe to be the only undefeated D1 team, is honorable mention, but has a chance to move up in the rankings with a strong performance at the Sprawl this weekend.

D2 also looks the same at the top, although Waupun defeated KML in their most recent head-to-head and could probably make a case for the top spot. Time will tell.

As expected, D3 had the biggest shake-up. Wisconsin Heights climbed to the top of the list and Sheboygan Area Lutheran, still undefeated to our knowledge, has risen all the way to number four. Also, undefeated Grantsburg (D3 S1) comes from off the charts to claim the fifth spot.

Even with its first defeat of the season in the finals of the Watertown Invite (to Menomonee Falls), there's no reason why Catholic Central should have had to surrender the top spot in D4--and they didn't. Green Bay NEW Lutheran and Sheboygan County Christian flip-flop in the second and fourth slots and undefeated Potosi (D4 S3) remains in third.

Always interesting. Rankings remind us of a post we did back before anyone was reading the blog (OK, there were a few). To show how silly the bowl system is in division one college football, we showed what the end of the 2007 season would have looked like if the WIAA didn't have a D1 playoff. Here's the post from back in January. Enjoy.

Someone left an anonymous comment that basically questioned the WVCA rankings. We've decided not to publish it. Please understand that we have no connection whatsoever to the WVCA, but we also know that rankings are tougher to put together than it seems (ask the BCS). And everything will ultimately be settled on the court--that's the beauty of the tournament. Sorry if we've offended by not publishing, but we really want to keep this blog positive. We've personally been frustrated by rankings and end-of-year accolades in the past (no, we won't provide details) so we fully understand that side of things. But please concentrate comments on great victories and outstanding individual achievements. Thanks.
