Will the Lady Ramblers Ramble to the Resch: A Preview of Girls Division Three Sectional One

It's time to think D3. And there's plenty to consider in sectional one. Will Regis repeat as sectional champions? How far will Grantsburg go? Can Osseo-Fairchild play for a sectional championship on its home floor? Only time will tell. In the meantime, we'll tell you everything we've uncovered so far, one regional at a time.

REGIONAL A

Contenders: Boyceville, Chetek, Colfax, Glenwood City, Grantsburg, Luck, Unity and Webster

Top Finisher Last Year: Grantsburg lost to Washburn in a sectional semifinal.

Random Notes: Look for Grantsburg in this regional. They'll feature super sophomore Kourtney Morrin, who was all-Lakeland-West honorable mention as a freshman. She had 148 kills and 44 aces in 2007.

REGIONAL B

Contenders: Cameron, Cumberland, Hurley, Ladysmith, Park Falls, Phillips and Washburn

Top Finisher Last Year: Washburn lost to Regis in the sectional final.

Random Notes: Washburn is a perennial favorite, having won the Indianhead Conference last year. Senior Brittany Czerneski of Hurley had 64 blocks last season.

REGIONAL C

Contenders: Clear Lake, Elk Mound, Mondovi, Prescott, Regis, Saint Croix Central and Saint Croix Falls

Top Finisher Last Year: Regis lost to Cuba City in the state semifinals.

Random Notes: Gone are Tessa Warner's 451 kills, but Eau Claire Regis will be well-stocked with senior leadership, including setter Brianna Plank (1,199 assists), defensive specialist Stephanie Pica-Anderson (461 aces) and outside hitter Krista Lund (241 kills).

REGIONAL D

Contenders: Arcadia, Cadott, Eleva-Strum, Fall Creek, Melrose-Mindoro, Neillsville
Osseo-Fairchild and Whitehall

Top Finisher Last Year: Melrose-Mindoro lost to Aquinas in a regional final.

Random Notes: Stanley-Boyd's move to sectional two should put a new complexion on this regional. Look for Osseo-Fairchild to be highly motivated by the opportunity to play on their home floor in the sectional finals. They return senior Sarah Lundberg, who was honorable mention all-conference in the Cloverbelt West. Melrose-Mindoro features senior Jordan Blaken and junior Janelle Frank.

Our prediction: Regis over Washburn in three at Osseo-Fairchild on November 1.

Tomorrow: Girls Division Three Sectional Two
