Editorial: Just How Ridiculous is the BCS?

Who doesn't want an NCAA Division 1 College Football Playoff? To prove that athletic competitions are better settled on a court than on a microchip, C&V has figured out how last fall's D1 volleyball postseason would have played out had it followed BCS's lead. We took pre-playoff WVCA State Rankings and matched each high school team with its BCS counterpart. For example, since Pius XI was ranked fifth going into the playoffs, its BCS counterpart is Georgia. Here would have been the slate of postseason matches:
  • "Fiesta" Game: #9 Kaukauna v. #4 Burlington
  • "Orange" Game: #8 Kenosha Tremper v. #3 Watertown
  • "Sugar" Game: #5 Pius XI v. # 10 Neenah
  • "Rose" Game: #7 Muskego v. HM Kimberly
  • "Championship" Game: #1 Westosha v. #2 Menomonee Falls

And pity poor West Bend East with its #6 ranking, which would have been relegated to the lowly "Cotton" Game against an Honorable Mention opponent (say, Sun Prairie) instead of taking home the silver ball. It's hard to imagine how this would have been a better way to end the season. Would someone please stop the BCS ASAP?
