What's in a Number?

Yesterday proved that there's great volleyball being played in every division. Here's just a sample of some notable D4, D3 and D2 successes yesterday:
  • Division Four: Burlington Catholic Central (D4 S4) reached the finals of a very competitive Watertown Invitational that included 2007 D1 champion Watertown (D1 S5), 2007 D1 quarterfinalist Menomonee Falls (D1 S5), as well as strong D1 Oak Creek (D1 S8), D1 De Pere (D1 S2) and Wisconsin Lutheran (D2 S4) programs
  • Division Three: Wisconsin Heights won the 18-team Middleton Invitational that included D2 Lodi and D1 Middleton
  • Division Two: Waupun (D2 S2) walked through its tournament without dropping a set, including victories over Cedarburg (D1 S5), Westosha Central (D1 S6) and Sun Prairie (D1 S3)
Not to be outdone, Pius XI (D1 S8) triumphed at the Homestead Invitational in a field that included D2 powers Kettle Moraine Lutheran (D2 S4) and Catholic Memorial (D2 S4). The bottom line: On any given Saturday, anything can happen and probably will. Can't wait for the Sprawl next weekend in West Bend.
