Oshkosh Wins Exhibition Over Cardinal Stritch (1-7-12)
The UW-Oshkosh men's volleyball team defeated Cardinal Stritch University four sets to one in an exhibition match held on Friday (Jan. 6) in Milwaukee at the Cardinal Strich University Field House.
After committing 11 hitting errors in a 25-23 first set loss, the Titans offense came to life, winning the next four sets, 25-16, 25-16, 25-21, 15-9. UW-Oshkosh held advantages in kills (58-35), hitting percentage (.268-.055), assists (53-34), service aces (8-2) and digs (33-18). The Wolves enjoyed a 19-8 cushion in blocks.
Bill Meidenbauer (Sr. - Waukesha) led the Titans with 14 kills and four blocks, including three solo stuffs. Nick Mueller (Jr. - Kenosha) and Dan Ruys (Sr. - Kimberly) added 11 kills and Jordan Mattingly (Sr. - Kaukauna) tallied nine digs. Jake Ahnert (Fr. - West Allis) provide nine kills on a .538 hitting percentage and Bob Hall (Jr. - Appleton) dished out 33 assists. Zack Johnson (Jr. - Mequon) topped the team with three service aces and Mueller added eight digs.
Adam Cosson led the Wolves with eight kills, West Hatae had nine digs, Collin Hartman 18 assists and Noah Mader 12 blocks. Patrick Lenz chalked up nine kills and seven blocks.
"We played very well after only have three days of practice," said head coach Brian Schaefer. "Cardinal Stritch University is big and athletic and I was pleased on how we played defensively at the net. We didn't have as many blocks as them but our defense scooped up a lot of balls and forced them into a lot of hitting errors."
