ESPN has this story about five of the leading candidates for the 2011 Gatorade Player of the Year in Wisconsin. Plenty of worthy contenders this year, that's for sure. Should be interesting.

Sorry if this comes accross as negative, but you would think they could have at least gotten each player's position correct.
The prepvolleyball.com list is based on their club position; some play different positions for their high school team. ESPN should have that for a high school award, but they are relying on prepvolleyball.com for their info.
Just curious which of these players plays a different position in HS. Is it Bauer playing outside? Doesn't she do that in club also? She's obviously projected as a libero at OSU. Other than her, aren't these pretty accurate? Kocken is a middle. Goode is a middle. Blasier sets. Niemann is a middle. Doesn't seem like this list is all that inaccurate.
See thats what I thought, but on the CVA site Buaer is listed as an OH, same thing she plays in high school. She possibly prejects to being a libero at OSU, but I thought this was a high school award. Either way, whether she is in the front row or back row she is an amazing player.
Good for those Wisconsin girls! Are these candidates the finalists? Any chance Meghan Conley, Haley Jeffcoat, Jenni Fassbender, Mikaela Gunderson, or Melissa Morello could still get consideration? All of them are outstanding high school students and players who contributed greatly to their teams year after year--and have the stats to prove it! :-). (i.e., individual stat leaders, conference champs, regional champs, sectional champs, state tournament appearances.) That would be such an awesome reward!
There is comprehensive and exacting criteria that has to be met by the candidates, as per the governing body that does the judging. This particular award is an individual award, and it doesn't matter how a players team did, ie regional champs, state appearances. It also specifically says "current year impact", so individual or team finishes in prior years has no bearing on the judging. All the candidates, and many, many more are very worthy indeed.

Bauer plays outside hitter in high school but played libero almost always for club. Very talented. Many worthy candidates for this award.
