Such As It Is: A Preview of Division the First Sectional the Third

Note: We've had this preview 90 percent written for weeks so we finally decided to publish it today in its unvarnished form. We also added a link to Verona's victory yesterday in Fond du Lac. Feel free to add positive comments as needed and we really will try to publish more "previews" throughout the season.

2010 RECAP

Madison La Follette, led by current Wisconsin Badger and two-time Gatorade player of the year Crystal Graff, defeated Middleton in four sets to win the sectional finals. To get there, Madison La Follette had to beat Verona and Middleton overcame Waunakee. Madison La Follette lost in the state quarterfinals to Fond du Lac.

  • Baraboo Junior Samantha Terry was second-team Badger North all-conference last season. Senior Mariah Weiland-Duchow also returns.
  • DeForest Junior middle Megan Gasper returns, as do fellow junior Haley Hintz (DS) and Hannah Schultz (OH.
  • Holmen They graduated all of their all-conference players. We have no additional information.
  • La Crosse Central They graduated all of their all-conference players. We have no additional information.
  • La Crosse Logan They graduated all of their all-conference players. We have no additional information.
  • Madison East Senior middle Sonja Burnside recently committed to Wisconsin-Parkside volleyball.
  • Madison La Follette Obviously the Fieldhouse's gain is La Follette's loss. Junior setter Chrissy Daggett returns. She was first-team Big Eight and received "highest honorable mention" on prepvolleyball.com's Soph 78 list. Senior defensive specialist Sarah Vaughn also returns. She earned honorable mention Big Eight all-conference honors in 2010.
  • Madison Memorial Junior Kelly Lemkuil was second-team Big Eight all-conference last year.
  • Madison West Senior setter Victoria Ili was first-team Big Eight all-conference last season.
  • Middleton Senior setter Kasey Williams was first-team Big Eight all-conference last season, while junior middle Sydney Toon was second-team and sophomore defensive specialist Leia Peterman earned honorable mention accolades.
  • Monona Grove Senior Danielle Crawford was honorable mention Badger South honorable mention in 2010.
  • Oregon Sophomore Maddy Gits was honorable mention Badger South all-conference as a freshman. Playing for Capital 15 Navy, she was also named to the AAU All Star team this June in Orlando.
  • Sun Prairie Sophomore Emily Chausse was honorable mention Big Eight all-conference as in 2010. Senior Hannah Running was also Big Eight honorable mention.
  • Tomah We don't have any information.
  • Verona Senior Grace Anbouba was first-team Big Eight all-conference last season. Senior Jillian Bauer was also first-team, as well as second-team Madison.com all-area and an Ohio State recruit. Senior Rachel Burke as second team Big Eight all-conference. So was senior Lauren O'Brien. Junior Alicia Streeter was honorable mention.
  • Waunakee We don't have much information.

Madison LaFollette won the Monona grove tourney defeating West twice! Nice way to start the year, Grahns, Vaughn, Meiller, Lewis and Grady! The returning starters are tough. Keep working hard as a team.
