What's Striking Our Fancy Tonight? Running the Table at a Tournament

OK, so it's becoming obvious we aren't going to keep up with things the way we want to this fall. So instead of bemoaning that reality in post after post after post, we're going to commit to doing at least one post a day on whatever strikes our fancy at any given moment. No, it won't be the most comprehensive coverage. But hopefully it'll still be interesting and, more importantly, continue to help raise awareness for a great sport in a great state.

So what's striking our fancy tonight? Well, when we heard that Catholic Memorial won the Kettle Moraine Lutheran Invite on Saturday without dropping a single set, we started wondering whether any other tournament winners this fall could make a similar boast.

So can anyone? Whether it's boys, girls, high school or college, just leave a comment to this post if your favorite team was able to win a tournament this fall without dropping a single set.

Marquette University High School has only dropped 3 sets in their 2 tournaments so far this year.
In the Kettle Moraine Invite they lost to Catholic Memorial in 3 sets in the semi-finals but did not drop any other games.
In the Racine Invite (which MUHS had not won since 2005) this weekend, they dropped one set to Tosa East in the semi-finals, but this was the only set of the tournament that they dropped, beating catholic Memorial in the Championship in 2 sets.
MUHS is first in the state and has only dropped one match this year to Catholic Memorial, second in state, who they are 2-1 against. All have been great matches

In the 27 team UW Whitewater tournament Lakeside Lutheran played 11 different teams and went 22-1 in those sets. Not perfect but close.

Appleton North went 6-0 and 12-0 overall while taking the championship in the Ashwaubenon Invite on 9/11.

The Kettle Moraine Lutheran Tournament featured the teams ranked 1-4 and #9 in division 2 girls volleyball as ranked by the Wisconin Volleyball Coaches Association (WVCA). That's what makes this feat so incredible.

Racine St. Catherine's remains undefeated in match play and they've only lost 2 sets at this point of the season. This past weekend the Lady Angels won the Kenosha Krush (Tremper) Invitational without losing a set. Tremper gave the Lady Angels a scare in set 2 of the championship match but St. Cat's prevailed 26 - 24. Not bad for a D3 team vs. a D1.

Racine St. Cat's won the Janesville Craig Cougar Invitational this past weekend by running the table against Craig, Parkview, Delavan-Darien, Westosha Central, and Janesville Parker.

St. Cat's is 26-0 in matches and has only lost 4 sets all season.
