What We Said Then Grantsburg over Regis
What We Think Now The Pirates have a No. 1 regional seed, have only lost one game (during pool play of a tournament they subsequently won) and have won their conference for the one-millionth straight season (perhaps a slight exaggeration). Needless to say, we still like their chances. The other regional No. 1 seeds are Washburn, Colfax and Mondovi. Regis is a No. 2 seed.
What We Said Then Mishicot over Colby
What We Think Now Someone left a comment to our preview post stating that Mishicot's junior setter McKenzie Tellock has been out for the season with injury. They're the No. 5 seed in their regional. Colby is a No. 2 regional seed. The No. 1 regional seeds are Auburndale, Amherst, Oconto and Roncalli. In other words, we might have been a little off on this sectional.
What We Said Then Wisconsin Heights over Cuba City
What We Think Now Wisconsin Heights and Cuba City have two of the regional No. 1 seeds and still have inside tracks at meeting in the sectional final at Wisconsin Heights. Aquinas has another No. 1 seed and could make some noise. Wayland Academy is the other No. 1 regional seed.
What We Said Then Racine Lutheran over Sheboygan Lutheran
What We Think Now Racine Lutheran could still contend, but they're a No. 3 regional seed behind No. 1 Racine St. Catherine's (which we hear has been playing great of late) and No. 2 Shoreland Lutheran. The other regional No. 1 seeds are Dominican, Oostburg and Laconia. Sheboygan Lutheran is a No. 2 seed in Oostburg's regional.
Programming Note: We will not have an opportunity to do Girls D4 tomorrow. Instead, we'll do both D4 and boys on Sunday.

For Sectional 2 I see whoever wins Regional D (presumably either Roncalli or Sevastopol) getting to the Sectional Final as Oconto got beat by Sevastopol in conference play and finished behind in conference tournament. Amherst and Aubrurndale have already faced eachother once this season with Auburndale winning 3-0. Marathon finished second in the Marawood South behind Auburndale. Amherst has gone 1-1 against Rosholt this season. Not the most top heavy sectional, but no clear favorite what so ever. I'm going to make kind of a homer pick and say Sevastopol over Auburndale in the Sectional Final.
Wis Heights (D3 Sectional 3) parent here. Heights has a couple significant injuries that could affect how far we go. :-(
Our standout sophomore setter has been out with an injury since the KML Invite back in early September. She might be back on the court next week for Sectionals, if we make it that far. And our standout senior libero (an all-state candidate) has been out the past two weeks with an injury. She, too, might not be available until Sectionals.
Always hate to hear that. Thanks for the update, though. Appreciate it.
Heights parent here again, with a followup...
After losing the first set on Friday night's regional semifinal vs Belleville with our soph setter on the bench, she returned to the lineup, looked like she hadn't missed a beat (despite being out for six weeks) and helped Heights storm back and take the next three. She served the last six points of set 3, turning an 18-23 deficit into an exciting 25-23 win! :-)
She and Heights came out on fire again on Saturday, and swept Fennimore (a team that beat us earlier this year) with a balanced attack.
So it's on to Thursday's sectional semifinal vs Aquinas. Getting our standout senior libero back on the court would really help! Fingers crossed!!!
At least Heights has lost a game or two this year. Lat year's team was the best HS VB team I've ever seen. If Aquinas isn't intimidated it will be a good match. Too bad about the Heights libero, she is a fantastic player. Aquinas is very balanced ... they don't have one dominating player, but several players can hurt you. Three or 4 players can get between 6 and 12 kills. But, as it is for every team, it all starts with passing.
