The Official "Wow, What a Weekend" Post for the Wisconsin Badgers

We included the news in some posts the last couple of days, but let's spend a moment on this fine Sunday afternoon to give the Badgers some hard-fought, well-deserved praise for knocking off not one, but two, ranked opponents in succeeding days.

On Friday, the Badgers dispensed with the No. 18-ranked Michigan State Spartans in three sets. Here are some stats: Brittney Dolgner (Waupun '06) had 15 kills and hit .444. Ashley Wiedmeyer (West Bend East '07), Kirby Toon (Middleton '09) and Janelle Gabrielsen (Menomonee Falls '08) had two aces each.

Then on Saturday, Bucky defeated the No. 8-ranked Michigan Wolverines in four sets. Here are some stats: Gabrielsen had 44 assists, one solo block and six block assists. Elle Ohlander added seven block assists. Allison Wack (Westosha Central '07) hit .472. And there were 4,601 delighted fans to witness all of the above.

And speaking of hard-fought, well-deserved praise, read this truly inspirational article about middle Kelsey Maloney.

Congrats to Coach Pete Waite and the entire Badgers volleyball team on a great weekend of volleyball.

Ok, now to use the Bielema mantra and try to go 1-0 over the next two matches!

Ashley Wiedemeyer played for West Bend East. Given the rivalry between West Bend East and West Bend West, East fans would probably be upset by this slight oversight. It's kind of like saying Brett Favre plays for the Vikings! Oh, wait...

In the latest Big Ten stats Freshman Kirby Toon is first in service aces per set.

Ok, one last thing for the "wow what a weekend post." - Brittney Dolgner was named co-defensive player of the week in the Big Ten.
