- Johnson Creek at Burlington Catholic Central (D4 S4) This could be the best opportunity in years for a Division 4 team to pick up a playoff victory against BCC
- Grantsburg v. Washburn at Cameron (D3 S1) We like Grantsburg's chances to win state, but they could have their hands full as early as tomorrow night.
- Appleton Xavier v. Luxemburg-Casco at Little Chute (D2 S2) We didn't report on it, but we were more than a little impressed with L-C's ability to outlast a strong Green Bay Notre Dame team in a five-set regional final thriller last Saturday. Should be another good one tomorrow night against a surging Appleton Xavier team (BTW: Did you ID the Xavier alumna in that Drake video yesterday?)
- The Doubleheader in Watertown (D1 S5) OK, so we said we would only pick one game, but when four of the top 10 ranked teams in Division 1 will be in the same gym on the same night, we figured we could cheat a little. First game is No. 2 Watertown v. No. 9 Homestead followed by No. 5 Menomonee Falls v. No. 7 Nicolet. Winners play Saturday for a trip to state. Whoa.

Happy Lull Day
At least that's what it feels like to us: the lull before tomorrow's storm of great volleyball games. We picked one (well, sorta) from each division that's jumping off the page at us:

Just as a heads up the WIAA moved the Xavier vs LC to 8:00pm at Little Chute and moved the Seymour vs. Waupun game to the same gym at 6:00pm because of school being cancelled in Omro.
Definitely will be in Watertown for that double bill....
Too bad only one of the teams in Watertown tomorrow will be able to advance to the State Tournament. Seems most of the other Sections have only one or two contenders. How are the sections decided? Results from the previous year?
Division 3-Shoreland Lutheran vs. Whitefish Bay Dominican promises to be a dog fight. They have split against each other this year. Both teams took St. Cats Racine to 5 games, with Shoreland knocking out St Cats in the Road to the Resch. For the second one I am required to mention....I think Wisconsin Lutheran vs. Catholic Memorial could be a battle.
In response to "Too bad...", it is pretty hard to swallow three of the top ten state teams having to bow out of the state opportunity. But Watertown's the place to be!
No discrespect to Johnson Creek but I think Manitowoc Lutheran will be Catholic Central's biggest challanger on the road to state.
Please correct me if I'm wrong, but I believe tonight's first round sectional pairing between Grantsburg and Washburn marks the 12th consecutive match-up of its kind during the play-offs. Grantsburg leads the series 8-3 (Washburn won in 2000, 2002, 2007). This claim may need some fine tuning as I'm over 40 and my mind plays tricks on me.
Signed...Grantsburg's assistant coach since 1996, Deb Allaman-Johnson
ALL OF THE FACTS ARE IN. This first round of sectionals marks the ELEVENTH time Grantsburg faced Washburn in the play-offs: 1998-2005, 2007-2009, Grantsburg leads the series 7-3 (Washburn won in 2000, 2002, 2007.)
Sorry about the incorrect info earlier. We did some sleuthing.

Can't wait to see D4 C-FC vs Royal!
Look for Edgerton to survive Section 3 in Division 2. Their defense and team play is outstanding. They frustrate the opposing hitters with their block and back court play.
Three-legged stools ARE sturdy! A great outside hitter, good setter and middle blocker were enough for Nicolet to shelve Menomonee Falls Thursday night. But Watertown has a deeper arsenal. My money's on Watertown to State.
Nicolet V Watertown will be a very good match.
It will come down to receiving and defense. Melissa Morello on the outside for Nicolet has got to be one of the best in the state. When coach from Falls says they know what she is going to do and still can't stop her, you know something special is going on. Nicolet Setter, Rachel Morello is not flashy but runs the show, puts the ball in the rights spot and just wins. MBs, Flemming and Goode are the keys for Nicolet, however.
Love the ball control of Watertown and how well they play D. So consistent, don't make errors, well rounded and so experienced.
