And Royall's win over Cochrane-Fountain City is the definition of a four set thriller, in which all four games were decided by the minimun two points,26-24, 24-26, 25-23, 28-26.

Just shows what an incredibly exciting sport volleyball is.

The results for Sectional 4 in D1 are definitely not what I would have expected

Fondy and WI Heights have advantages with home court? Only two of the 20 sectional finals worked out that way.

Hats off to Shoreland. I think they are finally clicking. Having a second big hitter with the Bahr girl back has really helped them.

Great to see Madison LaFollette get an upset win over Waunakee. It was so fun to see the girls excitement after the win. That is what high school sports is all about. Good luck to the Lancers in a re-match of the Big 8 Conf Championship match against Middleton.

The D3 Cuba City/Wisconsin Heights match should be a doozy! (doozie?)

The Grantsburg vs. Washburn match last night was delicious.

I love this time of year... such great volleyball.

BTW... thanks for the link to the Grantsburg story.

SLIGHTLY EDITED ANONYMOUS COMMENT:

Yeah, the Lafolette - Waunakee match was great to watch. Very exciting!

We were very glad to stay and watch the second match of the night. Just some great volleyball in Madison last night!

Good luck to the Lancers on Saturday!

Nicolet V Watertown will be a very good match.
It will come down to receiving and defense. Melissa Morello on the outside for Nicolet has got to be one of the best in the state. When coach from Falls says they know what she is going to do and still can't stop her, you know something special is going on. Nicolet Setter, Rachel Morello is not flashy but runs the show, puts the ball in the rights spot and just wins. MBs, Flemming and Goode are the keys for Nicolet, however.
Love the ball control of Watertown and how well they play D. So consistent, don't make errors, well rounded and so experienced.

Wish I could see the Sauk Prairie/Edgewood match tomorrow night! Edgewood probably has the edge (no pun intended) on paper, but a very determined Sauk team will try a let their presence be known! Should be loud at McFarland tomorrow night! Man, I love volleyball sectional finals! A chance to go to state....you have a chance!

Two Shout Outs. First, good job vb coaches in the seeding meetings throughout the state. Most matches are with #1 & #2s. Secondly, good job Madison LaFollett, Neenah, Fon du Lac, & Brookfield Central for fighting the odds!!

We received this via e-mail regarding the Hayward game.

Hi:

Whew! Hayward advanced to the Section final, I'm sure you know, with a 3-2 win over Medford last night. But did you know Medford had two match points in the third set? Hayward fought those off and then came back to win in five; the first time Hayward had been in a fifth set all year (only thing close was their 2-1 loss to Grantsburg at the Ashland tournament--that was best 2 of 3).

Amy McDonald had about 20 kills, sophomore middle Caitlyn Beckman had 9 kills and three solo blocks..all coming in the last three sets.

Jsut got home from the Burlington _ Westosha Match and all I can say is WOW. Congrats to Burlington on winning 18-16 in 5 but a big congrats to Coach Berg and his team on playing above and beyond. The Chelsea's were a big factor for them. Neave set a great match with awesome defense from her also. Visk was almost unstoppable. The only thing that really got her was when they couldn't or didn't get her the ball. The B-town girls played tough. Westosha took the 1st and 3rd with B-town taking 2 and 4. Guess which side B-town chose when they won the flip! The match came down to kids just playing hard on O and D and giving it all they had.

D.C.Everest over Eau Claire North was a game to watch. Back to back points. the atmosphere was chaotic with cheering. Everest is a true contender this year just by watching how in synch they are with one another on the court. their libero seems to pick up EVERYTHING, very smart and skilled setter along with powerful and smart hitters. They are the underdogs to watch out for this year.
