Tuning Up for Nationals Here, There and Everywhere (And Make Sure You Read About Everywhere)

Most clubs still playing have their sights squarely set on various upcoming national tournaments, whether it be JVDAs in Louisville, Girls JOVCs in Miami or Boys JOVCs in Atlanta. And that means tune-up tournaments are clearly the order of the day--here, there and everywhere.

Here (as in Wisconsin)

The Prep Volleyball Classic occurs mid-month and obviously many Wisconsin teams will be competing. We don't believe pools are up yet, but when they are, we'll let you know. Or, as is so often the case, someone else will let us know and we'll pass the information along.

There (as in Illinois)

This weekend, Milwaukee Sting 18 Gold, Southwest 18-1, Wisconsin Juniors 16-1, Wisconsin Juniors 16 Blue, Wisconsin Juniors 15-1 and Wisconsin Juniors 15 Blue are among teams competing in Illinois at the GLC Pre-Nationals. Pools are up and we'll keep you posted on results.

Everywhere (as in Missouri)

Last weekend, West Bend Power 16 Purple went to the show-me state and did much more than just show up. The Battle for the Arch is a second-year invitational event in St. Louis that boasted an expanded and extraordinarily tough field this year: 11 of the 14 teams in the 16s-18s age division had, in fact, already earned Miami bids (five American, three National and three Open). West Bend Power had the opportunity to play all three of the open teams, including a thrilling three-set upset on day two against eventual-champion K.C. Power (the Kansas City team had already won three open-division national qualifiers this season alone and is one of the top-ranked teams in the country). West Bend Power ended up finishing third at the event. Not too shabby.

Ain't June an exciting month for volleyball? Sorta like July, August, September, October, November, December, January, February, March, April and May. Stay tuned.
