We promised we'd give a little attention to some of the teams that had been flying under our radar so here's your seventh installment of same. As we perused the D2 teams that had made the round of 32, the Brodhead Cardinals jumped out at us as a team we haven't said much (OK, anything) about. After further inspection, it turns out they won the Rock Valley South before losing to Edgerton in the conference tournament. The Cardinals turned the tables on Saturday night, however, defeating Edgerton 3-1 in their D2 S3 regional to advance to a Thursday night match against River Valley.
Brodhead is led by hitter Kristen Ruchti and setter Cassie Wymer, both of whom were 1st team all-conference last season. According to the Beloit Daily News, Ruchti had 33 kills on Saturday night and Wymer added 63 assists.
