Reports on the Under-Reported #6: Homestead

When we did our sectional previews in August, we knew that what we didn't know was far greater than what we actually did know and now that we know just a little more about what we didn't know then, it's been hard to know how to circle back and let everyone else know what we now know. Make sense?

Anyhow, Division 1 Sectional 5 is a case in point. The other day, someone left a great comment to our D1 S5 sectional preview about the Homestead Highlanders, questioning why we only mentioned one player, Stacie Hoffman, in our preview. It pointed out that the No. 3 seed in this sectional is a "true team," getting key contributions from junior libero Andrea Voss, junior outside Erica Reetz and freshman outside Claire Raddatz. A quick check of Mequon Now reveals a few other names getting ink, such as the big blocking numbers that Lauren Kellaher is putting up. Here's another story about how they overcame an injury to Erica Reetz to finish third at the North Shore conference tourney. (For the record, when we called Homestead "overachievers" at the Joust, it's because they moved up more than any other team when compared to how they had been seeded.)

And speaking of D1 S5, it's going to be an interesting sectional. There's the potential second round match between No. 7 seeded Cedarburg (with Loyola recruit Karen Sueppel) and No. 2 seed (and defending state champ) Watertown. There's No. 1 Menomonee Falls looking at a possible sectional semifinal match against a tough No. 5 seeded Waukesha West team. And, of course, there's No. 3 seeded Homestead ready to make some noise of its own. Should be fun, starting a little less than 10 hours from now.
