Will the Logrollers Roll to the Resch: A Preview of Girls Division Four Sectional Two

Let's spend an August Sunday afternoon thinking about Hornets and Royals and Logrollers. That's right, it's time for our preview of Rosholt, Assumption, Wabeno and all the other teams in girls division four sectional two. Notably absent from this particular sectional is last year's state semifinalist Green Bay NEW Lutheran, which shifted to the brutal sectional four. What remains, however, should provide plenty of entertaining volleyball.

REGIONAL A

Contenders: Abbotsford, Almond-Bancroft, Assumption, Athens, Columbus Catholic, Granton, Loyal and Port Edwards.

Top Playoff Finisher Last Year: Assumption lost in four to Niagara in the sectional semifinals.

Random Notes: Look for senior Jada Straub and the rest of her Assumption teammates to have an impact on this regional. Defending Marawood North champion Abbotsford could also make a deep run in the playoffs.

REGIONAL B

Contenders: Bowler, Conserve, Elchlo, Northland Lutheran, Phelps, Rosholt, Tigerton and Wisconsin Valley Lutheran.

Top Playoff Finisher Last Year: Rosholt lost to Assumption in the regional final.

Random Notes: Rosholt returns senior outside hitter Elizabeth Larson and setter Alyssa Macht and they'll proved to be a powerful one-two punch again this season. Tigerton senior middle Cora Schultz and Elchlo senior Shannon Ruhland will also have something to say about the outcome in this regional.

REGIONAL C

Contenders: Gresham Community, Marion, Oneida Nation, St. Mary Central, Suring, Wabeno and White Lake.

Top Playoff Finisher Last Year: Wabeno lost to Niagara in five in the regional final.

Random Notes: Wabeno features stellar juniors Autumn Aderholdt and Kristen Baugnet while White Lake will counter with the senior leadership of Rachel Klement and Danielle Stegall.

REGIONAL D

Contenders: Florence, Goodman, Laona, Lena, Niagara, Pembine, Saint Thomas Academy and
Wausaukee.

Top Playoff Finisher Last Year: Niagara lost to Green Bay NEW Lutheran in the sectional final.

Random Notes: Florence will have returning seniors and all-conference honorees Becky Schiltz and Aileen Lemanski. Goodman will feature seniors Johanna Borzecki and Jenny Podnar. But even though they're losing a lot of kills with the graduations of Chelsea Teafoe, Jenny Jarvis and Shelly Prost, Niagara still looks to be the favorite in regional D thanks to players like Jamie Vandenberg who had 229 kills last year.

Our prediction: Wabeno over Rosholt in four at Wausau West on Saturday, November 1.

Tomorrow: Girls division four sectional three
