We've either been missing the big news these past few days (which is entirely possible) or there's a lull between the heart of the club season and nationals: fewer major tournaments, fewer junior verbals and fewer senior signings.
But that doesn't mean we're going to sit on our hands until Dallas, Louisville and Sandy or the high school and college seasons to follow.
In fact, there are a couple of long-term projects we're pursuing during the lull. The first is what we're calling The Wisconsin Volleyball Wikipedia Project. You may or may not be familiar with what Wikipedia is all about, but it's basically an online encyclopedia whose content is entirely created by average people like us. Anyone who registers can create, delete or update any entry.
We became rookie Wikipedians yesterday when we added a Wisconsin Select reference to Jeff Nygaard's Wikipedia entry. While we were on the site, we also noticed that there was no entry for the term, "Wisconsin Volleyball." So we started this Wisconsin Volleyball entry. It's really sketchy (Wikipedians would call it a "stub") and will only improve as more content is added.
So here's the dream: By next year, wouldn't it be great if Wikipedia were chock full of entries related to volleyball in Wisconsin? Imagine entries for the Badger Region Volleyball Association, UW-Milwaukee Panther Volleyball, UW-Green Bay Phoenix Volleyball, Marquette Golden Eagle Volleyball, you name it.
We'll be doing what we can as time allows and we'll keep you posted on our progress. What would be even better, however, would be to have many of you become Wisconsin Volleyball Wikipedians as well, starting new stubs, correcting typos, clarifying dates, whatever.
It's one more way we can show the world how much Wisconsinites love volleyball.
