Still Dancing (And When)

Here are teams with Wisconsinites who have Saturday second-round games in the NCAA Division I tournament:
And, of course, the Colorado State Rams have already advanced to the Sweet 16 courtesy of a huge upset over No. 6-seeded Washington. Megan Plourde (Somerset '08) had six kills and three block assists in the victory. They'll play again next weekend and we'll have more on that early next week.

Go, Wisconsinites, go.

Two Senior Shout Outs to Kellye Zaporski and Lauren Felsing

UW-Milwaukee's amazing, late-season run ended last night in a five-set heartbreaker to Dayton, one of the top-ranked teams in country. Congrats on a courageous effort to all of the Panthers, including seniors Kellye Zaporski (Kettle Moraine Lutheran '06) and Lauren Felsing (Wisconsin Lutheran '06). Good luck in all of your future endeavors.

Cheese & Iowa State: A Closer Look at Wisconsin Connections on the No. 7 Seed in the DI Tournament

The Iowa State Cyclones are easily enjoying their best season in program history. They've won 25 games, the most ever at the school. They're ranked fifth in the latest AVCA poll. They're the only school to beat No.-2 ranked Texas this season and they ended a 75-game (!) losing streak to Nebraska. They also have several Wisconsinites to thank for a great deal of their success:
Best of luck in the tournament -- unless, of course, you're up against the UW-Milwaukee Panthers, but looking at the brackets, that can't happen until the championship game ;)

Former Wisconsin Prep Stars in the NCAA Division I Tournament

Here's what we know. Let us know who (if anyone) we've missed. We've also included a link to each team's season stats.

UW-Milwaukee Panthers to Play Dayton in First Round of NCAA Division I Playoffs

Once again this year, the Panthers are heading back to Champaign, Illinois to play their first round game in the NCAA Division I playoffs. This year, however, they won't have to face the Illini -- at least not right away. Their first round opponent will be the Dayton Flyers at 4:30 p.m. on Thursday. Here's the official release.

And here are a few quick facts about the Panthers' incredible race to the finish:
  • They've won 11 consecutive games
  • The streak started with a five-set thriller over Illinois-Chicago on October 16
  • They fought off two game points against UW-Green Bay in the Horizon League quarterfinals
  • Lauren Felsing (Wisconsin Lutheran '06) was named MVP of the Horizon League Tournament. Maddie Sueppel (Cedarburg '06) and Natalie Schmitting (Neenah '07) were also on the Horizon League all-tournament team
Good luck, Panthers. This is your year.
