Forget for a Moment the Imminent Start of the Rose Bowl to Sample Our Fourth Annual New Years Day State Volleyball Predictions

Happy New Year, everyone. Despite our somewhat embarrassing 2 of 5 showing in 2010, our January 1 predictions remain 9 of 14 lifetime (2008, 2009, 2010). So without further ado, here goes nothing.
  • Division 1: Pius XI
  • Division 2: Green Bay Notre Dame
  • Division 3: Racine St. Catherine's
  • Division 4: Burlington Catholic Central
  • Boys: Milwaukee Marquette
Please keep in mind this is JUST FOR FUN and barely even an EDUCATED GUESS (how can it be otherwise?). There were, of course, a number of schools that almost made got the New Year's nod (e.g. Burlington, Catholic Memorial and McDonell Central, to name just three). Also, after looking over our predictions, we should share that the Vatican had absolutely zero influence on these picks.

Feel free to leave your five state championship predictions as a comment but please do NOT add any editorial commentary about either the teams you chose or the ones you didn't. Thanks and good luck to everyone in 2011.

P.S. Time to beat the TCU Horned Frogs on the gridiron, eh?

Thanks to You, Racine St. Catherine's Volleyball Remains Undefeated

Thanks in large part to your votes, the Angels' Division 3 state volleyball championship was the biggest sports story in Racine County in 2010.
  • Bigger than Racine Park alum John Clay helping the Badgers beat The Ohio State University in football (always a good day when volleyball outperforms football, if you ask us)
  • Bigger than the RSC boys' basketball team winning state (always a good day when volleyball ... well, you get the idea).
  • Even bigger than some dude catching a 41.8 pound brown trout in the Salmon-a-Rama.
Congrats again to the Angels and thank you to everyone from around the state who helped make it possible.
