2009 Girls Lists (Be Sure to Look at Comments for Numbers We Haven't Put into the Post Yet)

This is what we're gonna try to do with our lists and hopefully it'll work: We're gonna start adding names and stats as we find them (or you send them our way). Once any particular list gets too unwieldy, we'll establish a minimum number of kills, blocks, etc. for that particular list and delete performances that fall below the cutoff (it sounds more brutal than it'll actually be). As mentioned previously, we'll scrounge up what we can, but we'll need your help as well. In other words, if we don't find it or you don't send it, it ain't gonna show up below. Best-of-three tournament games will qualify in the three-set category. No, this isn't perfect, but, hey, it's something and we're hoping it'll be more valuable than the way we handled this last year. Boys and colleges will likely follow a similar system soon.

    Consider just using kills, blocks, or assists per game like college stats. Do not use the total. Nobody is impressed with 15 kills in three sets but are impressed wit 25 kills in 5 sets. Both are 5 kills per set.

    For example Tori Krull had 50 assists over 5 games. The report would be she average 10 assist per set in their victory over....

    Excellent point and we'll definitely think about it. The state tournament program records totals the way we're proposing and, at some levels, that just seems more interesting than using numbers that would inevitably require percentage points (e.g. 4.73 kills per set). In any event, the key right now is to gather lots and lots of good information. We can work the math either way (or both) if we have the facts. Thanks for reading the blog and the good suggestion.

    If there are five sets in a game, I have numbers for you. All of these girls are from Preble High. Meg Goerdt, Junior, had 24 digs in five sets. Rachel Taicher, Senior, had 26 kills in five sets. Jenna Smits, Junior, had 43 assists in five sets. Jenna Smits, Junior, had 49 assists in 5 sets. Rachel Taicher, Senior, had 25 kills in five sets. Annie Goerdt, Freshman, had 9 kills in one set.
